How you can buy in bulk smarter on e-CASS Web

Finding time to buy in bulk effectively can be hard. With everyone focused on todays prescriptions and driving down owings, it can be hard to stay on top of what you should buy in bulk, and when it's cheapest.

And that's not withstanding the difficulties of tying up precious cashflow in stock, with the potential for wasted space and spoiling out of date products.

To help, we've just added the ability to build bulk order pads on e-CASS Web. But there's lots of ways you can use e-CASS Web to make your bulk orders more efficient.

Build up your regular bulk orders as-you-go on e-CASS Web. You can now add a custom order pad to e-CASS so you have multiple 'baskets' to place cascade orders from.  Add a custom order pad to your e-CASS Web order pad screen - click your user settings and chose 'enable custom order pad'. It'll appear as 'Bulk Order' on our order pad page, or you can rename it, for example to 'Monthly'.

Buying in bulk is good - until medicine on the shelf starts to go out of date or ties up cashflow. Without the detail of what's already on the shelf and the number of lines you typically order, ordering in bulk can cause you issues.

Combat this by checking your 30/60/90 day usage on e-CASS Web before you order. We show you this before you add items to your order pad, meaning that if you're ordering for the next few weeks or months, you get the right amount.

And we ensure you don't double up on stock you already have by using our excess stock feature.

This allows you to add stock that's already in your pharmacy (or another branch if you're a group) to a 'virtual warehouse' - so the next time someone in the pharmacy places an order through e-CASS, we let you know, you already have some!

Your monthly profit report is a treasure trove of useful info that can inform your ordering. Every line submitted through e-CASS is on there - so it's useful for identifying if your pharmacy is ordering products at wildly different prices. If there's a big variation in prices paid - it could be a sign that, next month, you can save by ordering in bulk when prices are low.
